Business television (BTV) lets you cost-effectively educate or communicate with staff, customers and stakeholders across a city, a country or around the world.
An HEI paper-industry client needed to update and train its technical and marketing staff at all 85 US plants, augmented with periodic executive briefings. The requirements were a good fit for BTV. We planned and designed an inexpensive multi-purpose television system including a TV studio with audio conferencing, so all sites could talk and be heard by the others. Communications was via inexpensive occasional satellite.
This business television system included:
- A terminal at each plant to automatically record each session, permitting shift workers to review the presentation material.
- A headquarters television studio to meet other company training and PR needs through production of recorded material.

The client's corporate goal was to reduce travel costs and improve staff utilization. The system proved successful on all counts. But it is also an example of what can be done at reasonable cost with less complexity than a large, fully equipped videoconferencing network. Broadcast technologies are flexible, providing easily customized capabilities to meet any organization's needs, alone or in combination with teleconferencing technologies.
