system monitoringSignificant cost reductions are now feasible for direct broadcast satellite (DBS) service providers. Today, a satellite that five years ago could provide 100 television channels of mixed quality using MPEG2 coding, can carry three to five times the number of channels, depending upon quality desired. This is made possible by using the latest video compression standard, H.264 AVC, previously called MPEG4 Part 10 AVC. Satellite broadcasters can look forward to better quality at lower bandwidth, making cost-effective DBS a reality for previously marginal markets and making larger systems more profitable.

Since the groundbreaking AVC technology was first proposed at ISO and ITU, HEI has been working with suppliers and clients regarding next generation systems. New system capabilities include long-overdue enhanced data capabilities. Also with AVC, optimized modulation and forward error correction techniques, new growth market segments, like broadcasting plus Internet to aircraft and ships, can be implemented efficiently.

Conventional broadcasters can reduce backhaul costs for news and sports feeds while maintaining or exceeding MPEG2 quality, because of H.264's reduced bandwidth requirements. HEI's staff provide needs analysis, planning, budgeting, design, equipment evaluation, staff training and project implementation management services. Whatever your needs for broadcasting, training, data or security, we will help your organization achieve its goals in a cost effective way.

HEI is unaffiliated with any manufacturer or satellite service provider. We don't get any payments or other considerations from any suppliers for recommending their products or services. We've maintained this arms-length approach over the years to make sure that we continue to clearly see your visions and dreams objectively. We won't compromise your best interests.
