At HEI, we will build a web site in keeping with the agreed-to wishes of the client, based on an approved plan. For implementation of more complex sites, we will produce a schedule with milestones and periodically hold project review meetings with a client's staff.
For completeness, the balance of this page generally addresses technical aspects rather than the business-related items.
For the actual implementation, HEI will preferentially use the technology that in its opinion will provide the greatest business benefit to the client as well as addressing nuts & bolts technical design issues including security, scalability, maintainability and reliability. On the other hand, if a client requires the use of a particular approach or technology as part of its marketing plan or for other reasons, HEI will make use of the solution preferred by the client.
Similarly, HEI uses W3C standards and generally accepted design techniques for web site implementation, unless otherwise instructed by the client. Normally, we produce code that is at least compatible with popular web browsers produced within the last four years. Some clients may also require special compatibility or security aspects to work in specialized environments.
Clients also need to be aware that certain proprietary products, including credit card processing, video codecs and databases for example, may require initial purchase, royalties and usage fees. We do not include these fees or costs in our quotations but they are included as part of a needs assessment cost benefit analysis.
Photography and graphics are also important site development and cost considerations. Depending upon available time, the definition, selection and creation process can happen in parallel with the prototyping or, to suit a client's needs, custom graphics, photography and artwork may be delayed until following the planning and prototype decisions. Alternatively, for many web sites, the full or partial use of public domain images and graphics may be appropriate.
Finally, one wants to do everything possible to make your web presence secure, rugged and reliable — its technical design and implementation needs to discourage hacking, spamming, hijacking and other forms of denial of service attacks. But at the same time, security features must not detract from a customer's otherwise satisfying, problem solving experience visiting your web site.
Delivery and testing of the completed web site are generally done in a mutually agreed-to manner, depending upon the complexity of the web presence.
