In 2004, our in-house web-design team began offering corporate marketing services focused on web site design and maintenance services for clients. Included, all in support of an organization's marketing plan, are aspects ranging from creative design, creative writing, ISP selection, search-engine placement optimization, day-to-day management and statistics reporting. Contact us for further information.
Regarding the technology and evolution of HEI's own web sites, in mid-2003, we migrated from W3C HTML 4.01 transitional standards to W3C XHTML 1.0 transitional, including XHTML-enforced standardization, embracing the full W3C CCS2 support. We also and added DHTML (JavaScript) for menus and other purposes. This marked the latest step of our site evolution. The use of style sheets improves web site accessibility for the visually impaired — those who might use text-reading programs. Our site displays well on pocket PCs, suitably-enabled PDAs and cell phones.
Our web site technology- and standards-compliance is driven by web browser evolution. Our web site currently fully supports web browsers more recent than Netscape 4.76 (>99.9% of our site's typical traffic).
In November, 2004 the Mozilla Firefox 1.0 browser made its debut. Generally standards-compliant, it has some excellent capabilities and is very secure. Firefox is available for the PC, the Mac and Linux, and in many different languages. It's a free, compact download from http://www.mozilla.org. Firefox can also block pop-up ads and does not permit ActiveX and VBasic controls, the source of many computer security exploits. We recommend its use over older products from other manufacturers.
If our site does not work correctly with any version 5.x or later browser, our webmaster would appreciate being informed of the details. However, we do urge all web users to upgrade to the latest version of Mozilla's Firefox.
